So, this is mainly a page in honor of my favorite Spoon, John Sebastian. Why is he my favorite? I'm glad you asked that poignant and relevant question. There are so many reasons why John Sebastian is the kind of awesome that actually pains you, but the main reason is that he's a decent human being. This isn't to say that the other Spoons weren't; quite the contrary, I think the band on the whole was made up of some of the most genuinely cool guys ever.
However, in this fickle industry, so many musicians have their pants on too tight and are just... not nice to people. I can't tell you how many uncomfortable situations I've seen with people who thought they should be treated a certain way because of what they do or did. John Sebastian is not this.
Every encounter I've ever read of John Sebastian has been singing his praises up one side and down the other. Take, for example, this passage from Dallas Taylor's autobiograpy Prisoner of Woodstock:
If ever there was a person who deserved to be famous and adored by millions, it was John Sebastian. Kind, unasssuming, unreasonably friendly and forgiving, he was also truly talented.
And there's much more where that came from, kids. I don't think I've ever read one bad word about him by anyone. That's so rare in this industry. I mean, to have someone who truly cares about his fans and fellow musicians and everyone around him is just so refreshing. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
I've been extremely privileged to have met John a few times. Each time, he's been incredibly gracious, friendly and personable. In addition, he puts on an amazing show. His performances are engaging, informative, fun and just overly stellar, and one can't help but keep coming back for more. The fact that he's a doll is just icing on the cake.
Anyway, before this gets too long and too rambly too late, I just basically wanted to create a little section to honor the sheer brilliance and candor of this true gentleman. You are incredible, John.
